STANDARD ADMISSION CRITERIA
Children are admitted into school at the beginning of
the term in which their fifth birthday falls. For admission
purposes term dates count as 1 st September, 1 st January
and 1 st April. The school has nursery class facilities
available for eighty children on a part time basis, the
age of admission being the term after the child's third
birthday. Applications for nursery are accepted after
the child's second birthday and can be obtained from
the school office.
In the event of over subscription the following criteria
will be applied, in priority order, to determine which
applications will be granted:
-
Children in care.
-
Children who live in the catchment area and who,
at the time of admission, will have a brother or
sister attending the school.
-
Other children who live in the catchment area.
-
Children who live outside the catchment area and
who, at the time of admission, will have a brother
or sister attending the school or the linked junior
school.
-
Other children who live outside the catchment area.
In the event of over-subscription within any criterion,
preference will normally be given to children who live
nearest to the school as the crow flies. Distances are
measured from the entrance to the child's home to the
nearest recognised main entrance of the school building.
The exception to this is that all children who fall into
criterion 1,2 or 3 by the closing date for application,
will be guaranteed a place at the school providing the
school is listed as the first preference and the application
is received by the closing date for the normal year of
entry to the school.
Special Circumstances
Consideration will be given to applicants who can establish
particular medical, special educational needs or social
grounds relating to their child. Supporting written evidence
from a doctor, social worker or other relevant professional
must be provided at the time of application . The definition
of a special educational needs relates to a learning
or physical difficulty which calls for special educational
provision to be made for the child. Each case will be
determined on its merits.
Special circumstances may take precedence over any of
the other criterion listed above. The allocation of any
such places will be determined by the Area Education
Officer, in consultation with the Headteacher.
Admission to year groups other than the intake
year
Applications for admission to other year groups will
normally be considered in relation to the published admission
limit which applied when the year group was first admitted
to the school, although class size will also need to
be considered. If places are available within the year
group, applications will be considered in accordance
with the above admission criteria. If places are available,
the child will normally be admitted to the school.
Further guidance on the way in which applications are
dealt with including
can be found in Nottinghamshire County Councils “Admissions
to Schools” booklet 2005/2006 or www.nottscc.gov.uk/education/schools
Admission criteria for Nursery applications.
-
Places will be allocated in date of birth order
to those children who live in the catchment area
or who live in the catchment area but who, at the
time of admission have a brother or sister attending
the Primary school.
-
Places will then be allocated to children who live
outside the catchment area but who live within the
nearest, safest walking distance to the school.
-
Consideration will then be given to applicants
who can establish particular medical, special educational
need or social grounds relating to their child with
supporting written evidence from a doctor, social
worker or other relevant professional.
The term before your child is admitted to school they
will visit school on several occasions to meet their
new teacher. These visits will be short to begin with
and will then gradually build up so that children can
get used to the daily routine of a school day. The earliest
start for any nursery child will be the term after the
one in which they are 3 years old.
